Before every trip
Coupler latched and pinned, chains crossed, breakaway cable attached to the truck, all lights working, tire pressures at sidewall maximum, lug nuts tight, load secured, jack raised, gates latched.
Monthly
Inspect tires for cupping and sidewall cracking, check brake magnet wear if accessible, verify the breakaway battery holds charge, grease the coupler and jack, and look for cracked welds around axle hangers and tongue joints.
Annually
Repack or replace wheel bearings, inspect and adjust brakes, torque suspension hardware, test the full lighting harness for corrosion at connectors, and touch up any paint chips before rust takes hold.
Keep records
A simple maintenance log adds real value at resale and helps you catch patterns, like a hub that runs hot every summer or brakes wearing unevenly from side to side.
