Match the hoist to the material
Single-ram hoists suit light, uniform loads like mulch. Scissor hoists produce the most force at the beginning of the lift and handle wet clay, gravel, and demolition debris. Telescopic hoists lift highest and clear sticky material completely.
Bed thickness is not a detail
A 10-gauge floor with 12-gauge sides absorbs the abuse of concrete chunks and rebar. Lighter beds dent, then crease, then crack at the welds. If you haul demolition debris, do not compromise here.
GVWR and truck pairing
A 14,000 lb GVWR dump trailer carries roughly five tons of payload, which needs a three-quarter or one-ton truck and an integrated brake controller. Verify your truck's rear axle and payload ratings before you commit.
Options that earn their keep
Slide-in ramps let the same trailer deliver a mini excavator and haul spoil away. A combo gate, a tarp kit, a larger battery, and an onboard charger are inexpensive at purchase and awkward to add later.
